I’ve been having horrible upper back pain this week, so I only worked out once:( That’s OK, though, since I plan to work out Saturday and Sunday and get back on track for next week. So, I kinda eased my way back into the gym during the month of January, averaging about 3 workouts per week. I’m proud of that, but I’m going to step it up a notch in February and add some running, since it will hopefully be a little warmer here in GA.

I am very happy about finally going to the chiropractor about my back. It has been painful for years, and this week was just awful. Well, it was awful until a friend suggested I see her chiropractor, since our school insurance covers it! I had no idea it was covered. I went, and let me tell ya, the man is a miracle worker! He poppped my back for 10 minutes straight and it was instant relief. I’ve been three times this week, and will go twice next week for about two more weeks. If you are thinking about going, do it! I swear it’s the best money I’ve ever spent:)

So healthwise, so far so good. My goals for this month are to try to eat less processed and surgary foods and focus on whole grains, lean meats , fruits and veggies, and drink my 8 glasses of water a day. I will hit the gym 4 times a week, and continue to see the chiropractor and take my vitamins, B12 pills and iron pills daily (I forget a lot!)

Gym Schedule:

Monday: Group Active (30 minute cardio in the morning)

Tuesday: Group Power

Wednesday: Boot Camp (30 min cardio in the morning)

Thursday: Pilates

Long walk/run after school, if I don’t get a drink with my friends:)

As a mother, I totally related to the feelings and thoughts of every character in this book! Here’s a summary:

First comes love. Then comes marriage. And then things start to get really interesting…

In Jennifer Weiner’s richest, wittiest, most true-to-life novel yet, this highly acclaimed storyteller brings readers a tale of romance, friendship, forgiveness, and extreme sleep deprivation, as three very different women navigate one of life’s most wonderful and perilous transitions: the journey of new motherhood.

Rebecca Rothstein-Rabinowitz is a plump, sexy chef who has a wonderful husband, supportive friends, a restaurant that’s received citywide acclaim, a beautiful baby girl…and the mother-in-law from hell.

Kelly Day’s life looks picture-perfect. But behind the doors of her largely empty apartment, she’s struggling to balance work and motherhood and marriage, while entering Oliver’s every move (and movement) on a spreadsheet, and dealing with an unemployed husband who seems content to channel-surf for eight hours a day.

And Ayinde Towne is already on shaky ground, trying to live her life to the letter of a how-to guide called Baby Success, when her basketball superstar husband breaks her trust at the most vulnerable moment in her life, putting their marriage in peril — and their new family even more in the public eye.

Then there’s Lia Frederick, a Philadelphia native who has just come home, leaving Los Angeles behind, along with her glamorous Hollywood career, her husband, and a tragic secret, to start her life all over again.

With her trademark warmth and humor, Weiner tells the story of what happens after happily ever after…and how an eight-pound bundle of joy can shake up every woman’s sense of herself in the world around her.

From prenatal yoga to postbirth sex, from sisters and husbands to mothers and mothers-in-law, Little Earthquakes is a frank, funny, fiercely perceptive Diaper Genie-eye view of the comedies and tragedies of love and marriage.

I love new beginnings, which January always brings. There is just something energizing about looking at the new blank spaces on my calendar, unfilled and brimming with promise. I love filling those blank spaces with plans to spend time with friends and famly, travel and experiencing new things!

2009 will be a year of organization, living, laughing, and loving to the best of my ability. My goals and dreams for this year are:

1) Organize my chaotic life. Plan ahead, stay on schedule , clean only on the weekends and learn how to say NO to things that I just can’t fit in my schedule! This will lead to more time for my boys, which I never have enough of:(

2) Stick to my monthly budget and eliminate debt by December 31, 2009. This will be the hardest by far.

3) Maintain my weight loss, gain muscle and become an avid runner. I recently lost 17 pounds with Weight Watchers! I have 3 pounds to go to reach my goal weight and become a lifetime member. While I am pleased with my weight loss, carrying two ten pound babies has left me with a flabby belly, which I hope to eliminate with my workouts!

4) Read 25 Books or at least 2 per month in 2009. I used to read a book a week before I had my boys. It was one of my joys in life. I will find time for that simple pleasure again.

5) Be a better friend. I am so busy being a full-time teacher, mother of two, wife of one, and caretaker of two parents that I barely have time to breathe, much less reconnect with friends. These women are very important to me and have been there through good times and bad, and I feel as though I have been neglectful, to say the least. I have a goal of calling my girlfriends at least twice a month, sending cards and letters to the ones I can’t always reach 4 times a year, and having a girls night every 3 months.

6) Be a better spouse. I have a tendency to put my marriage on the back burner:( My husband is a gift from God, and I hope to practice patience, understanding and love with him.

7) Grow closer to the Lord. He has blessed me abundantly in this life, and I take these blessings for granted. I plan to spend 15 minutes every mornng reading a devotional and praying. I also hope to be more involved in my church, although I haven’t exactly figured out His plan for me yet.

8) Be the best educator I can be.I truly feel that being a teacher is my true calling. I want to further my teaching methods and get out of my comfort zone! I want to teach outside the box, and help my students learn to the best of their ability.

This blog is merely my attempt at keeping up with my progress with these goals. Wish me luck!
